Design;

Recently, I am under a very powerful influence of modern rock, punk and hardcore bands and the artwork they use for their CDs, posters etc. (stay tuned for inspiration post on the matter, I’m preparing one very soon!), mostly because “Young Cardinals”, a single from “Old Crows / Young Cardinals”, new CD by Alexisonfire. As my readers might remember, on the flow of inspiration, I’ve created my recent wallpaper – The Blood Has Been Shed. Now, it’s time for the newest work. Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with We Own The Sky, another widescreen wallpaper for your personal enjoyment!
If you like what you see, you can appreciate my work on my Behance portfolio. The full (1920×1200) version for widescreen monitors is available on my Flickr profile. As usual, if you have any comments or thoughts about this piece, drop me a comment or feel free to leave me a note on Twitter.

Few days ago, I have created a new, grungy, typography-heavy wallpaper called “The Blood Has Been Shed”. Originally, it is a widescreen (1920×1200) single screen wallpaper that has been done during my Frank Miller inspiration phase. The typography refers to the metalcore band Blood Has Been Shed which I listened to while creating this. More or less, this is just an explosion of creative juices that had to be funneled somewhere and a test, how well does VAL font perform inside an illustration.
Original (1920×1200) wallpaper is available at my Flickr page

As you probably remember, few posts ago I wrote that I’m starting a series of typography illustrated posters that will basically serve two causes – one: I want to have fun doing illustrations and typography and I want to dive deeper into design than just logos and websites which I was doing most of my design career, and two: most probably this or next year I will be trying to get into design and illustration school and I need some variety in my portfolio.
Anyway, without further ado, I present to you second of the series, “Waves”. Inspiration on type and color was mostly drawn from retro design and lifestyle magazines like Emigre or Esquire and since I was on a out-of-the-town chill out weekend, I tried to keep it in light, summer, vacation mood. As usual, original is available as A3@300dpi. If you want to print it for yourself, let me know.

Let’s get this straight – I absolutely hate graffiti/tag fonts that you can download from the web. In this short post I’ll try to explain why I hate them and why using them does not make you cool in the graffiti scene.

Since it’s the last day of 2008, I’m happy to announce that desktop calendar for January of 2009 is live and managed to land on the list of Smashing Magazine’s Desktop Wallpaper Calendar again. This was a quick, pure-typo work, hope you like it.
And now, I’m off to celebrate the first day of the new year. Take care and let this year be better for all of us. No matter what.
