Giveaway extended: Win a copy of “Wall and Piece” by Banksy!

Banksy

Are you a fan of graffiti, street/stencil art and Banksy? If yes, today is your lucky day – I will be giving away one copy of “Wall And Piece”, illustrated, commented album with Banksy’s greatest works – old and new. Here’s what Amazon has to say about the book:

Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. If you look hard enough you’ll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals.

Sounds like fun? Now you can get your own copy of the book absolutely free from MariuszCiesla.com! More details after the jump.

Inspiration: Streets of Kraków

For 25 years living in Kraków, I must say, that it’s easy place to get inspired – you can just get out of home and take a walk thru the streets. As any other big, popular city, it’s full of graffiti and street art, made either by local or passing by artists. We also have few local very good graffiti crews, full of real artists, including probably the biggest and oldest one – DONS (is it still Dealers Of New School? Used to be when I was active on local graffiti scene – props, guys!). Here are few pieces made by both local and passing by writers on walls of my city (click to enlarge).

Inspiration: David vs Goliath Records

I recently got my hands on “Good Things”, a new (2008) album by Looptroop Rockers. If you are a fan of independent hip-hop, you have probably heard about them. If you haven’t, but you like graffiti culture, you have probably heard These Walls Don’t Lie, which was – in fact – recorded by Promoe of Looptroop Rockers. In case you do not fall into any of the above, I will selectively quote Wikipedia on who Looptroop Rockers, Promoe and DVSGs are.

Looptroop Rockers is a hip hop group from Västerås, Sweden. The members are rappers Promoe (Mårten Edh), Supreme (Mattias Lundh-Isen) and DJ/Producer Embee (Magnus Bergkvist). On their latest CD the group changed its name from Looptroop to Looptroop Rockers, a name they’ve used unofficially for some years prior to the change. In 1998, Looptroop started their own record label, David Vs. Goliath (commonly referred to as DVSG) and with distribution handled by the Swedish punkrock label Burning Heart Records they released their full-length debut album Modern Day City Symphony in 2000. The album managed to sell reasonably well despite limited media exposure and spawned the underground hit single “Long Arm of the Law,” which took a critical stance towards the Swedish police force and has since become one of Looptroop’s signature songs.

Sounds fun, huh? This post is a collection of covers and art connected with Looptroop Rockers as a whole. If you dig street style, current trends and graffiti roots, you will find lots of interesting things here. Ready? Here we go!

Tag fonts: an ex-writer perspective

Let’s get this straight – I absolutely hate graffiti/tag fonts that you can download from the web. In this short post I’ll try to explain why I hate them and why using them does not make you cool in the graffiti scene.
