If you’re living in Central & Eastern Europe, you’ve probably seen them or at least head about them. If you travelled to Poland, Ukraine or similar and took your time to look deeper into the folk culture, you might have seen them too.
Wycinanki are very strong element of local folk culture in Poland and Ukraine and are especially visible when you take a trip to the countryside, away from the smog and noise of the city. What are those? In very brief description, one can say that they are state-of-the-art, intricate floral motifs cut in colored paper that are being glued to paper or wood for decoration. As simple as that. In some regions of Eastern Europe, the art of creating them has been taken to a whole new level and local designers and artists often use them as inspiration. Maybe they can inspire you, too? Get ready to get bombed with local culture inspiration and inspired designs, to get that creativity flowing.
Interesting talk by Ji Lee at Behance’s 99% Conference about how your personal and your commercial design projects can overlap to produce interesting effects. Worth watching.

Are you a fan of graffiti, street/stencil art and Banksy? If yes, today is your lucky day – I will be giving away one copy of “Wall And Piece”, illustrated, commented album with Banksy’s greatest works – old and new. Here’s what Amazon has to say about the book:
Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. If you look hard enough you’ll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals.
Sounds like fun? Now you can get your own copy of the book absolutely free from MariuszCiesla.com! More details after the jump.

#followfriday recommendations

- @ISO50
- If you’re a fan of good design and was not living under the rock for few last years, you probably heard about ISO50, the blog and website of a designer and artist, Scott Hansen. This, my friends, is his Twitter profile. Updated way more recently than the blog, it’s a goldmine of links to check. Warning – if you have problems focusing with distractions around (you shouldn’t use Twitter, then, durr!), it’s a productivity killer!

- @MadysonDesigns
- Sarah Whinnem, the founder and owner of Madyson Designs, self-proclaimed Miss Awesome of Twitter. If you use Twitter not only to share things like a robot, but you also appreciate good chat in your free time, you might want to follow Sarah. Not only sharing awesome things, but also very friendly and helpful, highly recommended follow.

- @sharebrain
- Official profile of Thomas Ulbricht, the brain behind the Sharebrain and other random popular design and webdevelopment projects around the web. If you’re into webdesign and webdevelopment and need some inspiration or help, Thomas is the person to follow, really.

- @Creativest
