One of the great sides of working in Lunar Logic Polska is the fact that it has really cool internal and side projects. We’ve got RubyTime, utype, Rubyusers and hell lot of fun things to do while not working on a paid project. That absolutely changed my point of view on internal projects, since in my previous company, working on internals was basically an equivalent for being sent to the quarry.
Recently, Paul, also known as Agile Activist, started to run his podcast about agile project management with Andy of CodeSprinters. Since I was working on my paid project mostly as a consultant – jump in, fix few things, help team accomplish something, jump out – Paul came to me with a proposition of making iTunes Artwork and site for his podcast.
My tasks on the project were: creating iTunes artwork plus splash screen and theme for the blog where the new episodes are being posted. My idea was to create the splash screen inspired by old, black & white movies and yet clean, sleek and professionally looking. After a while of research, I decided that my typographic weapon of choice will be the Libel Suit font from the Larabie foundry:

After I had my typography ready, I found a matching stock photo, did a bit effects with the font to make it look more metallic and voila! The iTunes artwork was ready:

After that was ready, I started working on a website layout for the blog. I wanted to keep it in the retro feel of the iTunes artwork, so I chose the way of old parchments, ribbons, stamps and heraldic symbols. I made only one iteration on the design, since after showing it, both Paul and Andy were satisfied with the look. Then it was just PHP and hacking Wordpress. ;)
You can see the final effects of my work here.
